Subjects identity confirmed 06/14/2002 by this couple's delightful granddaughters, Eleanor Elaine GRIFFITH Newman (born 06/14/1912) and Jean Marilyn GRIFFITH Brown (born 07/21/1915).

Jean (Griffith) Brown, age 87, told us when we met on July 14, 2002, that she has another photograph of her Grandma and Grandpa North, Dorothy and Cornelius, a copy of which we hope to receive sometime in the future.
Eleanor (Griffith) Newman, age 90, told us when we met on July 14, 2002 (her birthday), that she will send us a copy of photographs of her parents, Lulu Grace NORTH and Leslie Herbert GRIFFIN/GRIFFITH, which we also look forward to receiving.

Name: North, Dorothy. Age: 23. Occupation: Keeping House. Place of birth: Indiana. Father of foreign birth. Mother of foreign birth.
Name: North, John. Age: 2. Occupation: ---. Place of birth: Michigan. Father of foreign birth.
Name: North, William. Age: ?/12. Occupation: ---. Place of birth: Michigan. Father of foreign birth. If born within the year state month: Aug.
[The numerator of fractional age of William North is not legible...number of twelfths could be 4, 7, 9, 11, or ?. Denominator is definitely 12, the listed birth month definitely Aug. (for August).]
B) BLM General Land Office Records show:
4/15/1873 a Land Patent was issued to Cornelius North for 160 acres, filed at the Michigan land office of East Saginaw, under the authority of May 20, 1862: Homestead EntryOriginal (12 Stat. 392). Legal Land Description: E 1/2 NE, Sec. 7, Township 22-N, Range 7-E, Michigan-Toledo Strip, State of Michigan, County of Iosco AND W 1/2 NW Section 8, Township 22-N, Range 7-E, Michigan-Toledo Strip, State of Michigan, County of Iosco.
C) Civil War records show:
Cornelius NORTH at enlistment on April 23, 1861, was 5 foot 6 inches tall, with gray eyes, light hair, and light complexion. Wounded in head at Gainsville, Aug. 28, 1862. Wounded severely, both arms, at Gettysburg, July 1, 1863. Applied for and received Invalid Pension.
Our Reasoning
The male subject resembles Reuben North (1801-1883) in a Civil War photo of Union Officers and Staff of the First Cavalry, Arkansas Volunteers, which was emailed to me not long ago.
Minnie Ann North bears a strong family resemblance to these two individuals.
Comments
Dorothy O. Oliver and Cornelius North are the parents of Minnie Ann Oliver North who married 1893 in Tawas City, Iosco, Michigan, Charles Oliver Hinton.
Cornelius and Dorothy are my maternal 2nd great-grandparents.
Original Photo passed down to John Henry Hinton (1902-1986) from his parents Charles Oliver Hinton (1868-1950) and Minnie Ann Oliver North (1871-1911).
